RBI Academy Fielding Drill – Shuffle Don’t Crow Hop

RBI Academy Coach Nick Kern discusses footwork in the outfield and how it has changed over the years.

In the past Players were taught the “Crow Hop” which is essentially getting the ball, jumping up and doing a big arm swing to maximise the velocity of the throw.

Nowadays what is being taught is getting rid of the ball quicker to save time and not just focusing on throwing hard. Instead of a big long Crow Hop which will be in the air and not gain that much extra velocity, they instead teach the “Shuffle” which is keeping feet low to the ground, shuffle and try to get rid of the ball quicker.

This will give you a better chance of getting the out.

Watch the video to see Nick demonstrate the Shuffle.
