It can be quite challenging to determine the proper size baseball bat , especially for beginners or for younger players. Since they are just starting out and honing their skills in the sport, it is important for younger players to get the right bat size. A bat that fits properly can make a great impact. There are a few crucial factors to take into consideration when picking out a bat. The size of the bat should ultimately be determined by the player’s age, height, weight, and preferred material.

BAT SIZE CHART

T-BALL BATS

T-ball bats are used by younger players from ages 4 to 6. These bats are on the shorter side – the length ranges from 24 – 26 inches. They are smaller than adult-sized bats, with a barrel diameter of 2 1/4 inches, making it more simpler for your young players to swing and handle.

COACH PITCH BATS

Coach pitch bats are a bit bigger than t-ball bats, but they are still made for younger players. Usually for players ages 7-8. These bats typically measure 26 – 29 inches in length. Just like t-ball bats, they also have a 2 1/4 inch barrel diametre. Which is helps young players in maintaining control of their swings as they continue to hone their skills. Coach pitch bats are a great option for players who aren’t quite ready for an adult-sized bat just yet.

LITTLE LEAGUE BATS

Little League Bats are made for slightly more experienced players and come in different sizes depending on age and size. Typically, these bats are between 28 and 31 inches long and weigh between 15 and 22 ounces. They are designed to aid players as they continue to hone their abilities and advance in the league.

BBCOR Bats

BBCOR bats must have an official stamp certifying that they adhere to predetermined requirements. These bats are used by high school and college players and they typically vary in length from 31 to 34 inches and weight from 29 to 31 ounces.

In order to ensure fair play and player safety at both high school and collegiate levels, these bats are designed to comply with specific requirements.

Here are also some measurement methods usually used to make sure the bat is just the right length.

  1. Hold the bat with the bottom of the handle in the middle of your chest. Then, point the bat towards the side, parallel to your outstretched arm. You should be able to easily reach the top of the bat with your palm.
  2. Hold the bat with the bottom of the handle in the centre of your chest, facing outward. You should be able to easily reach out and grab the barrel of the bat.
  3. Stand up and place the bat against the side of your leg. The end of the bat should reach the centre of your palm when you reach down.
